Before we dive in tell you a little bit about the best cellulite products, cellulite creams or cellulite pills, let’s see what cellulite really is…
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite, commonly known as orange peel syndrome, is a condition of the skin and subcutaneous fat that presents as dimpling of the skin and sometimes nodularity. It most commonly affects the buttocks, but the thighs, lower legs and abdomen may also be involved. It occurs when subcutaneous fat, which is a normal layer of adipose tissue lying beneath the skin, herniates into the fibrous connective tissue. This can be caused by defective metabolism, severe dieting, hormonal disturbances, unhealthy lifestyle, and various other factors.
Around 80 to 90% of middle aged to elderly females may develop cellulite, but this condition is very rare in men. Although cellulite is not a disease and therefore, is considered a harmless condition, women having it are much inclined towards getting rid of it. This is because it is aesthetically very unappealing. So how can one get rid of cellulite? We can get rid of cellulite by using various anti-cellulite products.
These include creams that act by dissolving extra fat which in turn smoothens the overlying skin. However, some anti-cellulite products contains Amiophylline, which is a drug used for treating asthma, while some contain highly allergic chemicals in them. In order to avoid any adverse affects, it is advised that anti-cellulite creams should be made at home using natural products.
Cellulite Treatments That Work
Cellulite treatment carried out at home is a natural way of preventing the development of and decreasing the severity of cellulite. It includes the incorporation of the following routines in your daily life:
- Dry brushing of the skin using gentle sweeps with a soft-bristled brush.
- Massaging your skin using a deep tissue foam roller or getting a myofacial massage done.
- Regular work outs and particularly such routines that focus on the pelvis and lower limbs can help.
- An unhealthy diet may cause cellulite so the consumption of the right kind of fats, which are omega 3 fatty acids, can also help.
- Incorporating gelatin in your diet can help in tightening of loose and saggy skin.
How Can we Make Cellulite Creams at Home?
Instead of undergoing expensive treatments or using pills that may or may not prove beneficial, you can easily make cellulite creams at home!
Here is an easy to follow recipe for a homemade anti-cellulite cream:
This is a cream to banish cellulite from your thighs. Take a plastic mixing bowl and blend in together a couple of tea spoons of Rosemary oil and Juniper oil each, and a couple of table spoons of Grapefruit oil. Also add 2 tablespoons of Witch Hazel, if you can find it. Now, take 2 tablespoonfuls of beeswax and melt it over low heat. Once it is liquefied, add around half a cup of coconut oil (you can use more if you have a large area to cover). Cool and blend in with the mixture in your mixing bowl. Store it in a cool, dry place and massage it on your skin twice daily for optimum results.
Another homemade cellulite cream can be made by following this recipe:
Take one quarter of a cup of essential oil of either grapefruit or lemon and mix it in with 2 tablespoons of cinnamon essential oil. Now take a glass jar and add about one fifth of a cup of baby cream (approximately 150 ml) and pour in the essential oil mixture. Let it stand for 4-5 hours before mixing it together till a smooth and evenly blended cream is obtained. Use daily for a month after which it is preferable if you make a fresh batch.
An anti-cellulite scrub can be made by the following way:
Take half a cup of sea salt and mix it with half a cup of brown sugar. Add a couple of tablespoons of olive or almond oil, a couple of tablespoons of honey and 3 tablespoons of lemon juice. Blend in all the ingredients and use this scrub on wet skin. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse off with cold water. Use it at least twice a week, or more often for best results.
Other Ways of Cellulite Removal
Cellulite removal can also be brought about by a surgical technique called Liposuction. This procedure serves to suck out adipose tissue from the body. However, it must be noted that that the primary function of Liposuction is removal of deep fat, not cellulite, and many dermatologists warn that this procedure may aggravate the condition instead of regressing it. So it is advisable that cellulite should be treated with natural remedies instead of surgical procedures and medications.
